Conifers
One of smallest Korean Firs for the avid collector. A truly miniature globe-shaped specimen growing just an inch or two a year and reaching about 18” tall and wide with age. Loves sun and good drainage – perfect for small spaces, slopes and rock gardens. Zone 4.
A small and tidy Noble Fir with good texture and blue color. Forms a compact spreading plant about 18” tall and 2’ wide, growing only 2” inches a year. Best in sun and soil with adequate drainage. Edibles
A superior hardy almond that is both self-fertile and delicious. Nuts are ready in September in our area. Showy spring flowers and nice fall colors as well. Grows to about 20’ tall and wide. Zone 5.
We are going old school here, like Thomas Jefferson old school, on this desirable heirloom apple. Often regarded as one of best desert apples ever, BUT is also great fresh off the tree. Needs a pollinator. Ripens in October. Good keeper as flavor increases with storage. Zone 5.

Perennials
These taller growing (up to 3’) Hyssops come in a few colors and make quite a statement. Fragrant foliage and long blooming from mid-summer through fall. Plant in a sunny, well-drained location and enjoy. Attract pollinators and hummers all summer long. Deer and Rabbit resistant. Zone 5.
Tight new Hyssop growing only 12” tall and 15” wide. Likes full and great drainage. Flowers start in spring and go all the way through fall, attracting pollinators of all kinds. Fragrant foliage a bonus. Perfect addition to any sunny border or container. Deer and Rabbit resistant. Zone 5.
New member of the “Swan Series” – useful anemones coming out of Scotland. White flowers backed with violet blue begin blooming in June and continue into fall – much earlier and longer than others. Striking new Astilbe from Proven Winners. Foliage emerges yellowish with dark edges and matures to a rich dark chocolate purple. This fabulous series of Clematis out of Clearview in BC continues to add worthy flavors for our gardens. ‘Daybreak’ (large purplish with white striping), ‘Deborah Dahl’ (large lavender w/red stamens), and ‘Sea Breeze’ (wavy lavender and longer blooming May to Oct.) are new for 2023. Others bloom May/June on old wood, then repeat in August/September on new wood. All grow in the 6 to 8 foot range and need support like trellis, fence, post or arbor. Give good sun and well drained location. Pruning group B on these. Zone 4.
Commonly called “Sweet Fern”, this fern-like deciduous shrub offers durability and excellent foliage. New at Sunnyside 2023, this plant tolerates poor soils, seashore conditions, slopes and even drought once established. Great for shade and part shade garden locations sporting fern like foliage. Grows to 3 to 4 feet tall and 8 feet wide, as the colony develops with age. Does not transplant well once established. Zone 2.
Bright new variety that shows shades of orange, yellow and pink all mixed into one. These love sun and good drainage, and will attract pollinators to the garden – especially hummingbirds and butterflies. These will naturalize and form a nice patch as they grow from rhizomes. Grows to about 2’ tall, perfect border plant. Zone 6.
